The club received the coolest gift from the vet team that rehabbed Craker! Katie Hulka read A Mouse to be Free as a child. She said it forever altered the way she cared for animals and she thought would make an excellent addition to the SLAC-ker’s library.
It’s the story of a young girl who wants to help a mouse by keeping it safely inside her home, but in the end, she learns that a beautiful cage is still just a cage.

The girls wanted to share their favorite parts of the book. We loved it when the mouse escaped from the giant snapper and…
…later in the book, we were happy when the little girl finally opened the cage and the mouse turned back toward her in thanks.

Thanks to the Hulkas, we all learned how important it is to keep the wild things wild.
The book wasn’t the only gift on this day. One SLAC-ker brought more insect specimens for another SLAC-ker’s collection.
