This was a quick meeting to prep for an upcoming TURTLE SURVEY! One of our favorite mentors arranged a fantastic opportunity for the girls to get a real-world experience collecting data about the size, health, and the female to male ratio of our Spring Lake turtles.
Viviana Ricardez is a Chelonian conservationist who works with Carl Franklin, the biological curator and collections manager at the Amphibian and Reptile Diversity Research Center at the University of Texas Arlington. Vivana and Carl also work closely with Paschal High School teacher Andrew Brinker, who hosts monthly Trinity River turtle surveys. The girls (and the turtles) are in good hands.
They were so eager to show their appreciation to Vivi, they started working on a thank you card BEFORE the survey.
SLAC-kers studied the info sheets from Viviana.
Then we discussed Gabi’s tea party, which has been in the planning stages for SIX months at this point. We also made plans for a Spring Lake Spring Break cooking competition. SLAC-kers do things.
