Spring Break Baking Challenge

Sometimes the girls like to dig in the dirt, and sometimes they like to watch British baking shows. Sometimes watching baking shows leads to this:

Each SLAC-ker picked a recipe. Mentor Danae took them to the store to purchase any ingredients not already on-hand, and then she set them free to do their thing (as you’ll see in the pictures below, their “thing” turned out incredibly well).

At the time of the challenge, neighbors didn’t know who made which cake, but Danae was in on the secret since they girls baked in her kitchen. The rest of us got to see these pictures after the fact.

Look at those cakes, cupcakes, and cake balls!

Like the pies for National Pi(e) Day, the girls walked their tray of goodies from house to house. This time the tasting came with more responsibility because the recipients of the treats had to vote for the best one.  Being a judge is hard work.

Here’s where we ran into a problem:  Some of us remember voting for cupcakes, others remember voting for a bundt cake with lemons and strawberries on top, and quite a few remember voting for a pink raspberry tower before we fell into sugar-induced comas for the next three days. This can only mean one thing—a BAKING CHALLENGE DO-OVER!* Next time around, the judges are going to have to train hard in advance so their bodies can handle all that sugary goodness. Wish us luck!

*Insert maniacal laugh here.
